A quarrel among Selangor Umno grassroots over the allocation of cows for sacrifice has prompted its state leadership to warn feuding members that they would be sacked.

 

This is after the Damansara Dalam Umno branch members threatened that they would quit the party over the matter.

 

"If they want to quit the party, we will just sack them and we will not accept them back any more.

 

"If they have yet to quit, we can call them for a hearing but it's better that we just sack them,"  Selangor Umno deputy chief Abdul Shukur Idrus told Malaysiakini when contacted.

 

However, he said any decision to sack the members can only be done by the Umno supreme council.

 

"We can make a report (to the supreme council) and they will make the decision," he said.

 

'Wolves in sheepskin'

The spotlight fell on the branch after the Petaling Jaya Utara Umno division staged a public counter-protest, branding the branch's behaviour as "wolves in sheepskin". 

 

The branch members had allegedly put up banners at the Umno building in Shah Alam, Kelana Jaya and Petaling Jaya Utara to voice their unhappiness.

 

Abdul Shukur, too, condemned the Damansara Dalam Umno branch, saying that its action was aimed at embarrassing the party.

 

He explained that the person inciting the threat to quit had previously contested for a committee member position at the division level but lost.

 

"Then there was a small problem with the allocation of sacrificial cows.

 

"Now, he wants to embarrass us by doing this (threatening to quit)," he said.
