The government will not enact a new law to curb insults to the royal institution, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said.

"The existing law to protect the sanctity of the royal institution, the royalty and the Agong is sufficient," Bernama quoted her as saying at the Dewan Negara.

She said Articles 32, 38 and 71 of the Federal Constitution safeguards the special position of the royal institution.

She was replying to Senator Raja Roopiah Raja Abdullah, who asked if action will be taken on those who insult national leaders and the royal institution.

Raja Roopiah also asked if a new law will be enacted or the existing law will be strengthened to deal with those who insult national leaders and the royal institution.
