Dr M, it’s not about US, it’s about injustice here

YOURSAY ‘I don't see Mahathir bowing in shame for all the mega-scandals...’

Mahathir: Bow your heads in shame, Americans

The Mask: All the time I thought the ordinary Umno cybertroopers and supporters of the Sedition Act, do not get it. Now I find that even the high and mighty former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad also cannot get it.

Selective application and selective persecution is the bone of contention. If the authorities had applied the laws justly and fairly, the sane rakyat would not have made an issue out of it, and the world would not have noticed it and the Americans (and others) would not have commented on it.

Anonymous #559621903: Mahathir, the deeds or misdeeds of the US are not the focus here, it is the misuse of sedition laws in Malaysia that we are talking about.

FairMind: Indeed, Mahathir is missing the point. It is like saying - we in Umno maim, bully and mistreat our people but who are you, America, to criticise us when you also maim, bully and mistreat your own people.

The point is not about America; it is the injustices carried out here in Malaysia. You are merely pulling wool over peoples' eyes to hide the injustices carried out by Umno.

Fairnsquare: US Vice-President Joe Biden made two comments - on the Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim case, he mentioned that the world is watching.

When evidence shows signs of being tampered, the case is normally throw out by the court. There is no such thing that certain portions that are not tampered be accepted as evidence.

As for the government involvement, the separation of powers between the state and the judiciary should not allow it. But when tampered evidence is accepted, there seems to be some outside interference. This must be rectified.

As for sedition, the majority, Umno, in the BN government has voted for it to be retained, and this has to be so. Until and unless the government is changed, this will be the status quo.

One wonders why a senior politician like Mahathir would go on a ranting spree. Perhaps it’s his hatred for US or Anwar, who apparently seems to have the support of the US.

But then again, so does Premier Najib Razak. Malaysia-US relations are cordial and it seems that Mahathir is trying to upset this good relationship.

CHKS: People make mistakes, nations make mistakes. The Americans realised their mistakes and took steps to rectify them.

Mahathir, do you make right what have been done wrong? Why just two tweets trigger such a massive reaction from you? Or are you like "siapa makan cili, dia terasa pedas".

Americans have their wrongs but they try to make things right. You and Umno have their wrongs too. Is Umno making things right?

Middle Path: Mahathir, are you not bowing your head in shame after more than two decades in power and little to show? Look out your window across the Causeway, there is no need to look further beyond that.

SteveOh: Malaysiakini , I can't imagine Mahathir's recycled toxic rants against the US qualify as news that matters. Malaysiakini readers are not stupid. They didn't subscribe to Malaysiakini to be connected to his mental septic tank.

They don't read his blog. The stench is awful. A sniff once in a while is bearable but not such a constant flow. Please spare us the serial top billings for such diatribes. Mahathir vs the Rest of the World is old hat. Give us the real news that matters.

Kilgore: As usual, rather than address the accusation, Mahathir deflects by responding with an unrelated accusation of his own. A common tactic of his when he has run out of ideas and knows he's wrong.

Swipenter: I don't see Mahathir bowing in shame for all the mega-scandals under his tenure or hatched during his time as PM for example, Lingamgate, BN’s massive forex losses, PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone), MAS (Malaysia Airlines), Perwaja Steel, decline in education standards, institutionalised racism, etc.

In fact, he blames everyone for his failures except himself.

Anonymous_1399517796: Why only ask Americans to bow their heads in shame? Should we also ask Japanese to bow their heads in shame because they killed innocent peoples during WWII, raped women especially in Nanking (China) and Korea.

Serbians should also bow their heads in shame for causing the Bosnian war. So will Malays bow their heads in shame for invading Tanah Orang Asli? Then UK should bow their heads in shame for conquering the Commonwealth countries.

Pakatan-Ku: In US, laws do not discriminate; Malaysia laws discriminate blatantly. In US, court cases are trials by jury - meaning ordinary citizens are selected by random to become members of the jury which gives the accused a better and fairer chance of winning. Not here.

RCZ: US envoy Joseph Yun speaks well and makes a reasoned and compelling argument as to why countries make comments about other countries. Mahathir raves like an old and senile man.

Visu: Mahathir could give the Black Americans a chance to migrate by offering ICs to them. After all, he has done it before. See if there are takers.

This old man is so full of hatred for Anwar that this deep seated emotion can only stem from the fact that he is gripped by fear of his corrupt nature that only Anwar knows.

Pputeh: Mahathir, even if America is cruel (as you say), that does not mean Malaysia has to cruel and keep the Sedition Act. Two wrongs do not make a right.
