The state opposition leader should still helm the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali stressed today as he expressed regret over the resignation of state opposition leader Shamsuddin Lias recently.
In a statement today, Azmin said the state still holds that the opposition leader - a position which is now vacant - should hold the PAC top post, to provide a check-and-balance to the state administration.
"The state is of the opinion that the opposition leader should chair the state PAC and receive the appropriate facilities that came with the responsibility. This is to increase democracy in the state," he said.
Azmin said the state was trying to give "recognition" to the position of the opposition leader so that the position is not "badly viewed" or "be left out" in state administration.
"This is an important position in the state management, as check and balance of the state administration should be utilised to give benefit to the rakyat," he said.
Shamsudin ( left ) resigned from his position after refusing to take up the post of PAC chairperson, as proposed by the state.
Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo also said that the state should stop insisting that the opposition leader helms the PAC.
Selangor BN had announced that it would not fill up the vacant post of opposition leader.
