Police today questioned five Malaysians suspected to be involved in attack against Vietnamese fans during a tense AFF Cup semi-final game between the two countries last weekend, a senior police official said.

Mohamad Adnan Abdullah, a state police criminal investigation chief, said the five presented themselves to the police headquarters earlier in the day in order to explain the events leading to the scuffle that injured several Vietnamese fans.

Mohamad Adnan told a press briefing that the five were allowed to leave after their statements were recorded.

Malaysia lost the first leg match 2-1 against Vietnam late on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur.

A photo on the Facebook page of Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin showed a Vietnamese fan bleeding after an apparent attack by a few Malaysian football fans.

Mohamad Adnan said police are still looking for 10 more people who might be involved in Sunday’s violence. He promised to finish the investigation on the case soon.

The second leg will be held in Hanoi tomorrow. The other semi-final of the biennial South-East Asian championship is between Thailand and the Philippines. The two-legged final is on Dec 17

and 20.
