A man kidnapped in Sabah waters six months ago was released today, police confirmed.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that the man released is fish breeder Chan Sai Chiun, 32, Bernama reported.

He was kidnapped by gunmen from Kampung Sapang Air, Kunak on June 16 .

Another Malaysian kidnapped from an island off the Sabah east coast in July, police constable Zakiah Aleip, 26, is still in custody of another Abu Sayyaf-linked group.

Chan’s wife Chin Pek Nyen, 42, from Ipoh, Perak, earlier claimed the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of RM15 million but reduced their demands to RM3 million.
