Mahathir can’t count, BN has minority of votes

YOURSAY ‘Only those who have plotted against Anwar need to worry.’

Dr M warns of arrests with Anwar-Kit Siang combo

Gerard Lourdesamy: Former PM Mahathir Mohamad, what support from the people? Is he deficient in math?

Over 51% of the voters supported Pakatan Rakyat in GE13 because they were confident of the Anwar Ibrahim-Abdul Hadi Awang-Lim Kit Siang combination to lead the country.

Alas the BN won because of malapportionment, gerrymandering, unequal access to the media and abuse of the government machinery.

If Pakatan forms the government, their manifesto expressly provides for the repeal of the Sedition Act and all other laws that allow preventive detention and restrict fundamental freedoms.

The only thing that Mahathir, his children and cronies should fear is a free Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), an unbiased attorney-general and independent judiciary underpinned by a free and vibrant press that will ensure that those guilty of abuse of power, corruption and incitement to racial and religious hatred would be punished for their crimes.

Kee Thuan Chye: Mahathir is talking cock again. People voted for BN because they were afraid there would be more arrests if Anwar became PM?

Does he mean he himself would have been arrested? If he were to be, that would be the darn right thing to do. If for nothing else, for saying seditious things.

Those who might also get arrested would be the corrupt, who of course would deserve it. Mahathir calls that arbitrary?

Malaysian 53: Mahathir is indeed afraid he would be put in jail. I doubt the duo would stoop that low to arrest him.

Mahathir will definitely face his maker soon but Malaysians are likely to opt for the Pakatan coalition whether Anwar is jailed or not. And more likely, if he is jailed, that would be the end of Umno.

It’s time for Umno to remember what happened to KMT (Kuomintang) in Taiwan.

Anonymous #20513663: Only hapless foreign diplomats and clueless correspondents from the foreign press will believe this from Mahathir. They are the audience for this statement.

The subliminal message is that there will be chaos if BN loses. It the same message they have been blaring out to the international community for 60 years.

Mushiro: Mahathir stubbornly refused to accept the reality of numbers as reflected in the the last GE. He tries hard to convince that the people 'voted for the BN government' with only 47% of the popular votes.

Mahathir warned there will be arbitrary arrests if Anwar became PM. And he insinuates that LKS (Lim Kit Siang) will be the DPM.

Sadly Mahathir did not notice the peaceful, smooth and efficient takeover of the Penang and Selangor state governments by Pakatan after the 2008 GE and that the people were happier.

This was proven when Pakatan did better in Selangor and Penang in the last general election and even got 51% of the popular votes across the country.

Mahathir should understand that the people do not expect to see any arbitrary arrests when Pakatan takes over the federal government.

But corrupted people should be fairly tried, their assets taken if found guilty and they should be punished according to the law.

Anonymous_3e86: Only those who have plotted against Anwar need to worry. The rest of the ordinary rakyat has nothing to fear from Anwar and LKS.

Mahathir fears Anwar becoming PM because of the injustice he has done to Anwar. But I doubt anyone has an axe to grind with Mahathir anymore. He's just too old to bother with.

Sirach: The old man has really lost it. The last thing the rakyat expect in a Pakatan government are the arbitrary arrests that characterise Umno Baru’s rule, in particular the Mahathir regime, which is being repeated now by the manifestly insecure Najib administration.

The 51% who backed Pakatan voted, amongst others, for civil liberties and an end to the tyranny of the ISA (Internal Security Act). Mahathir is what is crudely described as a shit stirrer. Indeed, the term is custom-made for him.

His doomsday prediction when Kit Siang contested Gelang Patah is still fresh in my memory. Nothing better shows the utter contempt in which this man is held by right-thinking Malaysians than Kit Siang's victory over the untainted Johorean ex-MB, Abdul Ghani Othman, in spite of Mahathir's race-baiting.

Sadly, at an age when most people mellow and try to do some good, this man exhibits no such desire. The good thing is that hardly anyone, save for the radical and racist fringe, takes Mahathir seriously anymore.

FellowMalaysian: If there is arbitrary arrest when Anwar and Kit Siang comes to power as claimed by Mahathir, what does that show our police force?

The Attorney-General's Chambers as well as our judiciary's decision-making are hopelessly influenced and manipulated by the government of the day?

All I can say is that if there's anyone out there who knows the truth about his assertions, it would be Mahathir himself as he helmed the country for a record 22 years.

In fact, Mahathir was the great leader who has single-handedly emasculated our country's watchdogs and made them toothless and for that reason alone, he deserved to be tried for a slew of excesses and abuse of power.

Mahathir, the old fox, knows all too well how omnipotent country's government could be and for vilifying Anwar relentlessly, he is shrewd enough in sending out flares of diversion.

Bash: ‘Don’t do unto others what you don't want others do unto you’ is a good principle. I doubt Anwar and Kit Siang is as vindictive as you, Mahathir.

Furthermore, why fear when one does no wrong?
