An MIC senator had challenged the party’s disciplinary committee chairperson KS Nijhar to a “public debate” after the latter’s refusal to acknowledge the Registrar of Societies (ROS) order for the party to re-elect all but its top two posts.

A Vigneswaran in a statement recently said that MIC members must know “what had actually transpired” in the party elections that took place in December last year.

“Let the members know how the central working committee (CWC) is writing its own laws,” he said in a statement.

“Decisions which must be taken by the annual general meeting were being usurped by the CWC,” he added.

He said that Nijhar should concentrate on his work instead of opening a “Pandora’s box”.

He warned that the party risks deregistration if it does not follow the directive within 90 days.

Nijhar ( right ), according to The Star , said that the re-elections would not be held until “conflicting issues” are settled.

He said that he would recommend that the CWC seek either judicial review or meet the Home Ministry over the matter.

Party president G Palanivel recently said that MIC would lodge an “appeal” to ROS over the directive.
