Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim says he is in the dark about the Kelantan PAS government's plan to hold a special state assembly sitting on the implementation of hudud.

"We are not privy to what is going to be tabled.

"But, they promised to keep us informed, and I will remind Pakatan Rakyat's secretariat to get the particulars," Anwar told reporters today.

If the Kelantan government plans to table an old hudud bill, Anwar warned that it could be problematic, as it involved amendment to the Federal Constitution and federal bills.

"This could be problematic, you have to amend federal laws, for you don't have the power to enforce," he added.

The special state assembly sitting is scheduled to be held on Dec 29.

The opposition leader further warned of possible overreaction which may result in divisions within Pakatan.

“We will have to look at it. There is a national technical committee formed between Kelantan deputy menteri besar Nik Mohd Amar Abdullah and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Bahrom,” he said.

Anwar reiterated the Pakatan's stance on the matter in 2010 which said that at that time, the parties agreed that the new measures must be discussed by the coalition.

However, Pakatan also, in qualifying its stance, noted that the previous decision taken by the Kelantan government should be respected.

In 2010, Kelantan under the then PAS menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had passed the controversial Syariah Penal Code Enactment in 1993.

Despite that, it was never implemented 20 years after it being passed following it being in contradiction with the Federal Constitution.

Nevertheless, there are reported attempts to revive its implementation which had led to the formation of the technical committee .
