The number of flood victims taking shelter at relief centres in Terengganu dropped to 1,260 this afternoon from 1,661 people this morning.

According to the Terengganu National Security Council (NSC) portal, this was because several relief centres in Setiu and Kemaman were closed before noon after the victims were allowed to return to their respective homes.

Only 190 people from 50 families were still taking shelter in relief centres in Setiu, while Kemaman still have 338 people (82 families), Marang 646 people (163 families), Hulu Terengganu 50 people (18 families), Kuala Terengganu 22 people (five families) and Besut 16 people (three families).

A total of 20 relief centres remained open in the state, seven of which in Setiu, Kemaman (six), Marang (three), Hulu Terengganu (two) and Kuala Terengganu and Besut one each.

The portal also stated that the water level in Setiu river in Permaisuri and Langkap was at the warning level, as was the water level in Marang river in Pengkalan Berangan.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had also issued a warning of strong winds of 40-50kph with waves of up to 3.5 metres on Terengganu waters until Dec 18.
