Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee today urged PAS to leave the Pakatan Rakyat coalition over DAP’s objection to the Islamic party’s hudud ambitions.

He said that PAS should “stop delaying” in making a definite stand over the matter.

“When hudud is opposed by DAP, PAS must put their foot down firmly and leave Pakatan,” he said in an article published in the Cheras Umno blog today.

He said that PAS should stop challenging DAP to leave the coalition but the party itself should make a brave move.

“Now PAS and DAP leaders are all playing rhetoric, that they are willing to leave Pakatan,” he said.

But PAS should be “brave” enouh to make the first move, he stressed.

Syed Ali said that DAP will not leave Pakatan as long Anwar Ibrahim is the coalition’s leader.

He also stressed that it is high time for Anwar to state his stand on the matter and comment on DAP’s objections against the PAS proposals.

However, he believes that Anwar is more likely to side with DAP.

“Anwar is willing to defend Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for saying that non-Muslims in the state are allowed to use the word ‘Allah’,” he said.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Nik Amar Abdullah recently said that PAS will not leave the opposition coalition but welcomed DAP to do so if the latter feels that PAS’ hudud ambitions will cost the coalition votes in the next general election.

The Kelantan state government will hold a special sitting on hudud this Dec 29 to amend the Syariah law to pave the way for hudud.

It however still needs ratification from the Parliament before it can go ahead implementing the Islamic penal code.
