Umno scrapes bottom of barrel for succession

YOURSAY ‘Indeed, the three Umno VPs are square pegs in a round hole.’

Prof: Quick to shoot Umno veeps lack wisdom

Ferdtan: National Council of Professors deputy chairperson Prof Jayum Jawan, we don’t agree with your learned comment; it is too simplistic.

It is rather surprising that this came from a professor. You say that there is still no credible replacement for the PM’s post therefore (by default?) Najib Razak should be retained as PM in spite of doing a lousy job?

Why must BN follow the Umno tradition to choose the successor from the three Umno vice-presidents. Yes we know, precedent had been set before and Dr Mahathir Mohamad benefitted from this.

Before ex-PM Hussein Onn passed the baton, it was rumoured that his favourite, flamboyant ex-home minister Ghazali Shafie, was to succeed him. The then three Umno vice-presidents, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Ghafar Baba and Mahathir - the lowest ranking among the three - ganged up together to force Hussein to choose among them.

They claimed it was the ‘adat’ thing. What happened after that is now history. Prof Jayum also said that ‘second liners’ (in Umno) are not up to standard. So then why stick to old tradition?

Abasir: Umno is a bloated, stinking, rotting carcass occupied by vermin, maggots and parasites of all varieties.

If the country has no choice but to choose from among them, it is clear that it has finally (and quietly) arrived at 'failed state' status.

As those in the civilised world would say, this is yet another ‘Islamic’ state feeding on itself as it systematically implodes with corruption, incompetence, bigotry and arrogance.

And for those who would dispute this, please remember that inhabitants of failed states are the last ones to recognise them for what they are. Ask any Pakistani, Afghan or Somali, united as they are in their warped beliefs.

Chipmunk: Prof Jayum, Najib is flip-flop leader and he is a great actor so you must be really out of your mind to think the people still accept him.

As far as we are concerned, he will soon be remembered in history as the worst performing PM of Malaysia, He is doomed and so is his FLOM (First Lady of Malaysia).

Rakyat-in-grief:   I fully well agree with Prof Jayam on one thing that is, the three Umno vice-presidents are square pegs in a round hole.

They lack wisdom, intelligence and rationale in their utterances. Above all, there is not an atom of maturity in their statements.

Pputeh: "Moderate Malays, Chinese, Indians and those in Sabah and Sarawak can still accept Najib," said Prof Jayam.

You think so? I am a moderate Chinese but I think because Najib keeps his mouth shut each time Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali shoots his foul mouth and does nothing, it a matter of much concern.

Many of us would like a PM who keep his ears on the ground and hear the rakyat and not keep jetting around the world.

Sirach: How does the professor know that moderate Malaysians accept Najib? After Najib's caving in to the radicals on the Sedition Act, that's most unlikely.

But he's right in that the alternatives within Umno Baru are a sorry lot. Where have the Tengku Razaleighs, Musa Hitams and Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahmans gone?

Sadly, the Mahathir era culled Umno Baru of such talent, and the result is the mediocrities the party is stuck with.

Mushiro: Professor Jayum may be right but his arguments are shallow and simple.

To criticise the VPs of the ruling party, a professor in the position of the deputy chairperson of the National Council of Professors should have more materials, facts and figures, not just something plucked from the air.

The '25 eminent Malays' did better with their stand.

Man on the Street: Extremism has rooted so deeply in the Malay community. Religious principles are extended beyond its original intent.

Now, there is disunity among the Malays in our society. I only blame the education system by the Umno-led government.

Now, the community is paying the price whereas other races are enjoying the fruits of development.

Trublumalaysian: Only stand-out meaning in this article is the title itself; that we have three Wild Wild West gunslinger VPs in fine suits, who have mastered the art of activating their their mouths before their brains get into gear.

It's an inert benchmark of excellence which usually exerts itself, especially during their party’s GAs (general assemblies).

Truly, a mastery in itself but unfortunately at the expense of the country.
