PAS is only good at playing moral police

YOURSAY ‘Mahfuz shouldn't complain as the pageant will help to bring in dollars.’

PAS fumes at Langkawi beauty pageant

Vijay47: Kedah PAS chief Mahfuz Omar Mahfuz Omar, I thought you were one of the brighter sparks in PAS but it looks like you are as dim-witted as all the rest.

Pray tell me, how does one bring out "a healthy culture" in Langkawi or elsewhere? Of late we have been seeing many events, hardly to be described as particularly healthy or especially cultural.

But I am impressed that PAS Malaysia is at the forefront of Islamic knowledge, competent enough to guide the Egyptians on what Islamic behaviour is and what is not.

Proarte: It is becoming obvious that Pakatan Rakyat is a coalition which is unprincipled and self-serving. They have not been able to keep Umno in check because Pakatan is working at cross purposes.

Recently, PAS betrayed Pakatan and the rakyat when it opted to openly collaborate with Umno to unconstitutionally introduce hudud law. The crux of the matter is what do DAP and PKR stand for?

Is DAP going to uncompromisingly stand on its much flaunted 'permanent principles' but yet tango with PAS over hudud?

A coalition must operate on a basis of 'collective responsibility' which is why the 'common manifesto' is in effect fraudulent.

If there is a repudiation of the manifesto so soon after the election, then the rakyat cannot be blamed for concluding that the 'manifesto' was a cruel hoax.

By remaining in this devalued and humbug coalition called Pakatan, DAP and PKR are equally guilty of the betrayal. It is not surprising that Umno's gross misgovernance continues unabated as Pakatan is in disarray.

Where's My Fish: PAS has totally lost the plot. Really, what is it that you want? You want to take away all enjoyment from us, is it?

Hello, don't just concentrate on the afterlife. The life in this ‘dunia’ (world) is real and happening right before our eyes.

There are many other important issues at hand like rising costs of living, corruption, declining state of the economy. Address those issues which affect your fellow Muslims whom you want to defend and protect.

Don't be a moral police because you want a truckload of ‘pahala’ (reward) to ease your way to heaven. That's just selfish.

CucuMalaysia: At the rate PAS is behaving, if it doesn't leave the Pakatan coalition and DAP and PKR still don't kick PAS out, Pakatan will sure lose big in the next GE to BN.

In constituencies where Pakatan fields PAS, voters will vote for BN instead. Taliban mentality is not welcome here.

Axolotl: Apart from a handful of intelligent, progressive and down-to-earth leaders who realise the importance of joining forces with PKR and DAP and who appreciate the polycultural nature of Malaysia, the conservative faction in PAS can go join Umno.

Commentable: Sorry PAS, Kedah is no longer your turf. Go back to your home state of Kelantan and take care that you don't lose it as well.

Holding the beauty pageant in Langkawi is a matter of survival. If not, it will be a dead town (or rather, a dead island).

FellowMalaysian: Langkawi in the last couple of years has been languishing in despair for dearth of tourists and visitors. No locals go there to buy duty free goods as there's no more than a handful of shops in Kuah town.

So Mahfuz shouldn't complain as the pageant will help to bring in dollars. At the same time, it helps promote Langkawi to the rest of the world.

Gaji Buta: And there goes my plan to retire in Langkawi.

Not Confused: For heaven's sake, get a life! You antideluvian dinosaurs are not of this century. If the so-called pious Muslims don't want to go to this or any other pageant, then don't go.

It’s the same argument which has led Malaysia being sidelined and ignored time and again by renowned international stars and celebrities who have zero wish to even visit Malaysia, let alone perform here.

Instead, Singapore wins hands down and reaps the financial rewards of becoming the preferred Asian nation for similar events. Once again, poor misguided Malaysia shoots itself on the foot and continues to die a slow death internationally.

Tok Karut: Indeed, there is nothing wrong with the pageant if the women participants feel that they want to do this, and not pressurised, and do not think that all women should look like them as the one standard of 'women-ness'.

All PAS men and others who feel that their dignity and whatever else may be impaired or impacted, stay home and pray to remain steadfast in your faith on that day.

Kawak: PAS must look into their backyard if they think their fundamental policies will bring human decency.

Kelantan has been under PAS rule for 20 years, yet they have one of the highest drug abuse, divorce rate and presently, pornography watching in the country.

Anonymous_1398848614: PAS should fume over Taliban attack on children. At least, the pageant is peaceful.
