The number of flood victims in Kelantan dropped further to 18,012 people this morning compared with 18,570 last night as the number of evacuation centres in seven districts of Kelantan also dropped to 56 from 65 last night.

According to the state government’s flood portal, the number of evacuees in Pasir Mas however, increased to 11,930 people compared with 11,408 last night but Tumpat registered a drop from 5,328 to 4,712.

The number of flood victims in Kuala Krai also dropped to 350 from 814 last night.

Despite the drop in the number of flood victims, the water level in Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang exceeded the danger level of 9m as the latest reading registered 10.42m this morning.

No main roads were closed for traffic throughout the state this morning but the weather remained cloudy in the morning.

Four people have died since the second wave of floods hit Kelantan since Dec 16.

The flood situation in TERENGGANU remained unchanged with the total number of victims increasing to 4,687 this morning compared with 4,375 last night following rising water level in some low-lying areas.

According to the Terengganu National Security Council (MKN), 1,195 families were being housed at 41 evacuation centres.

Dungun has the most number of flood victims with 2,029 people, followed by Kemaman 1,177, Kuala Terengganu with 893 and Besut 319 people.

In Hulu Terengganu there are 211 victims, Marang (36) and Setiu (22) people.

Of the 41 centres opened, three are in Besut and Hulu Terengganu, 16 in Dungun, 11 in Kemaman, five in Kuala Terengganu, two in Setiu and one in Marang.

Meanwhile, the weather was reported to be cloudy with strong winds in the city forecast this morning.

Continuous rain in Pahang

In PAHANG, continuous rain this morning caused five relief centres to remain open to shelter 141 flood victims from 33 families in the Kuantan district.

A spokesperson from the Kuantan district police headquarters Flood Operations Room said 40 victims were placed at the Sungai Lembing police station after their houses in Sungai Lembing were inundated.

“Another four flood relief centres in the district are Sekolah Kebangsaan Cherating, sheltering 31 people from eight families, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pandan (27 people from five families), Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Ular (24 victims from six families and Kampung Chendor hall (19 people from five families),” he told Bernama in Kuantan today.

He said two main roads at Kilometre 34 of Jalan Kuantan-Maran and Kilometre 24 of Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing were closed to all traffic while the road at Simpang Kempadang Makmur junction was closed to light traffic.

Meanwhile, a Pahang police contingent headquarters Flood Operations Room spokesman confirmed that there were no flood victims in other districts.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department website showed two rivers in Pahang had breached the warning level, namely Sungai Kuantan at Bukit Kenau (22.31m)surpassing the warning level of 20.75m and Sungai Lembing at Kuala Tahan (69.08m) exceeding the warning level of 66.00m.
