Smooth traffic is reported on highways throughout the country except for two areas in Perak and Penang where two accidents occurred this afternoon.

A North-South Expressway (Plus) spokesperson said traffic was congested at Km258.6 southbound from Kuala Kangsar to the Menora Tunnel, and Km5.4 at the Penang Bridge from Perai to the island.

“The accident involving three cars near the Menora Tunnel heading to Ipoh caused a 1km-long traffic jam, but no fatalities were reported,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Traffic was also backed up on the Penang Bridge where two cars were involved in an accident, he said.

According to a spokesperson from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), traffic volume is expected to increase tomorrow evening as people take the opportunity to leave the city for Christmas and New Year holidays.
