Japanese car manufacturer Mazda was set to launch its second factory in Thailand, a source close to the project said today.

The plant was under construction and expected to come online in the second quarter of 2015, a Thai source involved in the project told dpa, on condition of anonymity.

It will have capacity to produce 200,000 engines and 400,000 transmission units per year, the Bangkok Post reported.

The new factory will have “60 percent of production serving the domestic market and the rest for export,” Hidesuke Takesue, the president of Mazda Sales Thailand, told the Post .

Mazda’s existing Thai factory has an annual capacity of 140,000 pickup trucks and 100,000 cars.
