A ‘Road to Unity’ event by the government for 172 Rukun Tetangga (RT) in Petaling district was actually a “road to Kidex”.

Damansara assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin lambasted the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) for the event held on Dec 22, which turned out to be a briefing on the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) at a posh hotel.

“JPNIN must explain its dishonest act in pushing for Kidex.

“The invitation letter (see attached) did not mention that the program was about Kidex. It only said that it is “Program Road to Unity”. What has Kidex highway to do with national unity? JPNIN has literally cheated the representatives of 172 RTs to attend a Kidex briefing!

“We are greatly disappointed with such dishonesty shown by both JPNIN and Kidex Sdn Bhd.

“Furthermore, JPNIN must also explain why the government agency is helping a private concessionaire to do its work?” said Yeo ( right ), in a press statement today.

She also questioned if taxpayers’ monies were spent to push through Kidex.

“The briefing was held at Hilton Hotel for about more than 400 pax. Who is paying for it?

“Last but no least, the RTs representatives were asked to sign attendance. We are now very concerned that this attendance list will later be used to say that the RTs have agreed with the construction of highway,” said Yeo.

The residents of Petaling Jaya has been mainly against the Kidex highway, claiming that it will only be more taxpayers’ money spent and clog the surrounding areas, which already suffer from traffic jams.

It was also one of the central issues in the ousting of the former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim.

The present MB Azmin Ali had said that he will listen to all quarters before shelving the project.
