As flood waters hit various regions around the peninsula, Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali is incensed that the government did nothing with his calls to stock food in flood-prone areas.

The former Pasir Mas MP stressed that he had made the call on many occasions during debates on the National Security Council’s budget.

He said he had urged for food with long shelf-life to be stocked in high-risk areas before the rainy season, so that flood victims won’t have to go hungry or resort to drinking rainwater.

“Personally, I am enraged. When I criticise, I am told to give constructive suggestions. When I give suggestions, it is ignored, not even looked at. Malaysia still has this dangerous culture of not practicing what it preaches.

“Take my ideas and suggestions for the future. Learn from past experiences. Please,” he said in a statement today.

Flood waters have hit eight states throughout the peninsula so far, displacing some 132,684 victims in what is said to be the worst flood in decades.

Ibrahim added that if food such as rice, sugar, sardines, noodles and dried fish had been stocked in advance, rescuers won’t have to struggle against swift currents and floating debris to bring supplies to flood victims, especially in interior regions.

“There aren’t even that many rescue boats and rescue workers,” he further said.
