Around 49 percent of road accidents on New Year’s Day were caused by drink driving followed by 24 percent of over speeding, said Public Health Minister Dr Rajata Rajatanavin.

Dr Rajata said today that drink-driving was the major cause of road accidents in the country over the past three days, Thai News Agency ( TNA ) reported.

Twenty road toll victims were aged 20 years and below, with four believed to have been intoxicated while driving.

Rescue officials sent 4,510 injured victims to hospitals during the New Year holidays.

Dr Rajata said his ministry had ordered provincial public health offices to continue road safety campaigns.
