An Umno lawmaker believes that a political tsunami will drown Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election as the recent floods have exposed the opposition.

“All sorts of lies were peddled to soil the image of the federal government which worked hard to help the victims,” said Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

“In the end, it is clear that the people know who to depend on during times of crisis,” he told Umno Online.

The Machang MP and Umno division chief said Pakatan would be ensnared in its own plot.

Ahmad Jazlan claimed that Pakatan was under pressure when it realised that the people could evaluate how aid was distributed regardless of political differences.

He was referring to the federal government’s efforts in helping flood victims in Kelantan, which is the stronghold of PAS.

This fear, he said, motivated Pakatan to “create lies” to confuse the public.

“For example, the slander against me that rice sacks (for the flood victims) had my image on them,” added the Kelantan-based politician.

Ahmad Jazlan explained that he normally stored some 50 rice sacks to be given to the poor and for functions.

“When the floods hit, I brought out the rice sacks. At the time, we were in a desperate situation. There was no time to find it (rice sacks) anywhere else.

“It was not only rice, I also gave whatever that was in my house which the victims could use,” he added.

Unfortunately, the Umno lawmkar said, the opposition had harped on this issue.

“It is disheartening that a flood disaster can be used to spread slander against me and BN,” he added.

Ahmad Jazlan said he was disappointed that the opposition could not differentiate between the time for politicking and the need to serve the people.

However, he added that the flood victims would judge this.

“They are the best witnesses to what the federal government did. I am confident that the end of 2014 marked a political disaster for the opposition,” he said.
