Certain vegetables which used to be sold at RM3 per kilogramme previously are now being priced at RM10 per kilogramme in the Klang Valley.

Most traders claimed that it was due to floods, despite the fact that those vegetables were not produced by the flood-hit states.

In fact, spinach, green beans and mustard sold in wet markets around Klang Valley were produced by vegetable farms in Ulu Yam and Cameron Highlands.

Selangor Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Office assistant director Yusof Bakar said the hike in the price of vegetables should not have happened.

However, he said his office, which had also been monitoring the situation in the Klang Valley, could not take any action as those vegetables were not controlled items.

“All we can do is to advise trader not to raise the price any more,” he told reporters after participating in a post-flood operation in Klang today.
