Former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Ya'kub died at the Normah Medical Centre here at around 9.30pm today. He was 87.

Sarawak Customs and Protocol Division head Khir Busrah, when met at the medical centre, said Abdul Rahman's body would be brought to Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya in Kuching at 10.30am tomorrow morning.

He said dignitaries, leaders and the masses could pay their last respects to him from 10.30am till the Zohor (midday) prayers.

After the funeral prayers, he said, the body would be taken to the Semariang Muslim Cemetery for burial.

Khir advised all those who wished to come to be dressed appopriately, with Muslims wearing black national dresses and non-Muslim women to wear baju kurung or loose-fitting kebayas.

“On behalf of the state government I extend my condolences to the family of Allahyarham Tun,” he said, adding that he could not confirm the cause of death.

Abdul Rahman, 87, who was previously reported as having received treatment for several months, leaves a wife and eight daughters.

One of his daughters, Nora, is state assemblyperson for Tanjung Manis, while another, Khadijah, is the daughter-in-law to second prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein.

His first wife, Normah, passed away in 1983.
