All agencies under the Home Ministry will prepare reports within two weeks on the recent flood as a guide to handle the disaster in the future.

Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the reports would enable the agencies to be always prepared, in the event of the disaster.

"We urge all agencies to submit a report of what happened when they went to assist the communities during the flood, what the weaknesses were, and the obstacles and difficulties faced...these must be identified," Wan Junaidi told reporters after handing over flood aid to members of the Kelantan police at the state police contingent headquarters in Kota Bahru today.

Wan Junaidi said the reports would enable the government to identify problems faced by the agencies in assisting the people during big floods.

In Kuala Lipis, Pahang, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan ( right ) said part of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections would be used to finance flood recovery programmes in the states badly hit by the disaster.

Ahmad said the collections from the new tax, which will be implemented from April 1, were needed as an additional fund to the allocation of RM1.1 billion for flood mitigation projects announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the tabling of the 2015 Budget.

"Although an allocation has been provided, the amount is not quite sufficient because part of it is needed to finance existing projects.

"Therefore, we need to use part of the GST collections, which is expected to give an additional fund of RM10 billion, to finance the flood recovery programme as there are more damage which have not been accounted for," he said.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees at the relief centres in Perak, Pahang and Johor dropped this evening, while the number in Kelantan remained at 1,843 as recorded this afternoon.

Perak recorded a drop to 2,255 evacuees from 2,363 this afternoon, while the number in Pahang decreased from 1,995 to 445 this evening and Johor down to 26 from 32 at noon.

With this new development, the total number of evacuees at the relief centres in the flood-hit states declined from 6,233 this afternoon to 4,569 in the evening.
