'Broke but not broken' Umno man files MACC report
Khairuddin Abu Hassan might be broke, but his spirit is far from broken with regard to his crusade against the ailing state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Khairuddin Abu Hassan might be broke, but his spirit is far from broken with regard to his crusade against the ailing state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
This afternoon, the Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the issue.
Speaking to reporters, he also denounced Umno as a “stupid” for launching a campaign to character assassinate him, which he added had “backfired like hell”.
In a media statement, Khairuddin said his financial woes would not prevent him from fighting for the people.
“No matter what condition, even if I am broke, I would continue this battle to monitor the importance of the government and the people.
“If this company (1MDB) goes bankrupt it would burden the government and indirectly affect the people,” he said.
According to court documents, Khairuddin was declared a bankrupt on May 14 last year by the Malaysian Department of Insolvency.
Last week, his penthouse in Kuala Lumpur was auctioned off.
Khairuddin also took a swipe at 1MDB chairperson Lodin Wok Kamaruddin (right) for stating that 1MBD had no connection with the government or people’s monies.
The Umno man described this as “irresponsible” and “suspicious”.
Khairuddin urged MACC to probe 1MDB directors over their approval for multiple business transactions involving billions of ringgit which were not transparent.
Last month, Khairuddin landed in the spotlight after lodging a police report against the firm, which is the brainchild of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He received flak from various factions, including several Umno leaders as well as Malay rights NGO Pekida, who lodged counter reports against him.
1MDB recently appointed former Abu Dhabi-based banker Arul Kanda as its new president with the hope of reversing its fortunes and repairing the firm’s image.
