The flood situation in Sarawak and Sabah worsened with the number of victims rising tonight.

As at 9pm, the number of victims staying at the evacuation centres in Sarawak stood at 10,512 compared with 10,103 victims this evening while the number in Sabah rose to 709 compared with 307 this evening.

The figure did not include the victims in Beaufort as the figure was not available as at 10.30 tonight.

Meanwhile in Kelantan and Perak, the number of victims was unchanged from this evening at 255 and 78 victims respectively.

In Sarawak, a National Security Council (MKN) spokesperson said 54 evacuation centres were opened throughout the state with 35 centres in Kuching which accommodated 7,337 victims, Samarahan with 13 centres (2,079 victims), Mukah one centre (78 victims) and five centres in Limbang (1,018 victims).               

              

To date, 32 schools in Sarawak have been closed due to the floods but the weather was reported to be generally improving throughout the state.

In Sabah, the number of victims in Tenom stood at 320 including 198 victims sheltered at four evacuation centres while the rest were staying with their relatives.

In Membakut, the number of evacuees staying at the sole evacuation centre rose to 299, while the latest figure for Keningau remained at 90 victims as recorded this evening.

However, the latest figure for Beaufort was not available as the process of evacuation was still going on.   

The water level in Sungai Padas tonight reached 177.40 metres, exceeding the danger level of 177 metres.

Meanwhile in Kelantan, the number of victims was unchanged from yesterday with 255 victims from 62 families staying at eight evacuation centres in Kuala Krai.

A Kelantan MKN spokesperson said all the victims were still staying at school halls, factories and mosques as their houses were swept off by flood waters or severely damaged by the floods which hit the state last month.

In Perak, the number of victims remained unchanged at 78 people from 19 families staying at two relief centres tonight.

A Perak MKN spokesperson said the number of victims in Perak Tengah stood at 44 while in Hulu Perak, the figure stood at 34.
