MIC secretary-general G Kumar Aaman, who is on the second day of his solo hunger strike outside the Registrar of Societies (ROS) building in Putrajaya, is now claiming he was threatened by four unknown men who came in a taxi.

Kumar said the threat took place at 4.30 this morning, when he was going to use the bathroom in the Chancery Place in the federal administrative capital.

"I was walking to use the toilet when I saw a group of men inside a taxi. They smiled at me, so I went to them and shook their hands.

"But I felt extremely uneasy as their smiles were fake," Kumar told Malaysiakini .

The men tried to be friendly, he said, and used the name of MIC strategy director K Ramalingam to gain his trust.

'I believe they werte carrying guns'

Feeling uneasy, Kumar said he believed the men were carrying guns and that he feared for his life. Luckily, he said, police Special Branch officers were on standby in the area.

He said he then walked fast towards the SB officers and the men, realising these were police officers, left the scene immediately.

The SB officers jotted down the taxi plate number and Kumar said he would make a police report later today.

He also said he is off liquids as well in his hunger strike from today, in emulation of the struggle of his idol Mahatma Gandhi.

He began his hunger strike at 2pm yesterday in protest against the ROS for not recognising his appointment as MIC secretary-general by party president G Palanivel.

He has vowed not to budge until the Home Ministry intervenes and removes ROS director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah and its investigating officers over the party's election woes.

Kumar also claimed that if the CCTV cameras in the lobby of ROS building were working, the authorities would probably find out the identity of the four men.

"This is a government building where sensitive documents are kept," he said adding that ROS needed to buck up and make sure its security was up-to-date.
