People Progressive Party (PPP) chief M Kayveas advised MIC members today to work with the office of the Registrar of Societies (ROS), instead of going into confrontation.

Kayveas, who is special adviser to the transport minister, said MIC members should not put up a fight with ROS in dealing with the issue of the MIC leadership elections.

"I would like to advise the members of MIC to work together with ROS. You cannot confront ROS - you must work with them.

"There is no point having this sort of confrontational method. It will not go anywhere," Kayveas told reporters outside Chancery Place in Putrajaya this evening.

Speaking out of experience, Kayveas ( right ) said that PPP had lost close to 40 years rebuilding the party after its dealings with ROS.

"(MIC) is a component of the BN and we want a solution to this matter," he said.

He also took a slight jab at ROS, saying appointments within a party lay with the president and did not fall on the ROS to decide.

Meanwhile, 24 hours after M Kumar Aaman's hunger strike, a doctor was seen examining him.

Dr T Preveena from Sri Permai Clinic said she had received a call from a concerned MIC member earlier today.

Taking his blood pressure reading, Preveena said that Kumar’s blood pressure had shot up and advised him not to continue with the hunger strike.

"If he continues, he will get severely dehydrated and will go into shock," she told reporters.

Kumar was seen lying on the ground, appearing exhausted. He is said to have not taken any food or any liquid since 2pm yesterday and has vowed to continue his hunger strike “until justice is served”.

Earlier this morning, a letter of appointment of Kumar as the MIC secretary-general from the party president G Palanivel was sent to ROS, as per the registrar’s request.

"We sent the official document at 9.40am today and the office (ROS) acknowledged it.

"Our demands are simple: ROS must acknowledge Kumar as the official secreyary-general appointed by Palanivel and they must meet with us today," MIC information chief L Sivasubramaniam told Malaysiakini .
