FLOODS The number of flood victims in Sabah slightly increased at noon today, while the situation in Sarawak improved with the closure of two evacuation centres in Kuching that had been reopened this morning.

    

This puts the overall number of victims placed at evacuation centres in the affected states at 5,608 from 5,747 this morning.

    

Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in Kelantan and Perak remained the same as recorded this morning with 255 individuals from 62 families and 77 individuals from 18 families respectively.

    

In SABAH, the number of victims rose to 2,835 individuals from 871 families compared to 2,697 individuals from 832 families recorded this morning.

    

According to the Beaufort flood operations room, the number of victims in the district's four relief centres increased to 872 individuals from 285 families.

    

He said the Membakut sub-district also recorded a rise in the number of victims at 1963 from 586 families compared with 1953 individuals from 581 families.

    

In SARAWAK, the number of flood  evacuees dropped to 2,484 individuals from 768 families compared with 2,761 from 774 families at 10am this morning.

    

A state National Security Council (MKN) spokesperson said that there were now 12 evacuation centres still in operation compared to 14 earlier on.

    

The Limbang division still accounted for the highest number of evacuees at 1,021 from 329 families, followed by Samarahan (889 evacuees in four evacuation centres), Kuching (248 evacuees in two evacuation centres), Miri (246 evacuees in one evacuation centre) and Mukah (80 evacuees in one evacuation centre).
