The crisis in MIC continues to worsen, with both president G Palanivel and deputy Dr S Subramaniam having declared an open war against each other.

In a press statement today, Palanivel said he is considering taking action against all those who took part in a meeting last Saturday at the Grand Seasons Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, which was chaired by his number two.

 

"I had not called for or sanctioned any meeting of MIC and requested any such meeting planned to be called off.

"However, the meeting had proceeded despite my request. The meeting held is illegal as it was done against the provisions of the party constitution," he added.

In view of this, Palanivel said any decision made or resolution passed during the "illegal meeting" shall also be illegal and of no effect.

"I am contemplating whether stern actions need to be taken against those responsible with regard to the meeting held.

"As explained earlier I am pursuing the matter of the Registrar of Societies (ROS)," he said in a statement.

Among others, it was revealed after the meeting that 90 MIC division chiefs unanimously agreed that the central working committee (CWC) for 2009-2013 be chosen to manage MIC in the interim period while waiting for a new CWC to be elected.

MIC has been plunged into a quandary after the ROS ordered the party to hold re-election for various posts.
