Johor Corporation (JCorp) is interested to acquire all National Feedlot Centre’s satellite farms, including the one in Gemas, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“JCorp has submitted its application to me and it will submit a detailed technical report to the Veterinary Department,” he added.

Ismail Sabri said this at a media briefing after presenting a special address to the ministry’s staff in Serdang yesterday.

He noted that the matter was still at the discussion stage, and that it still needed the consent of the Negri Sembilan government which is responsible for the centre’s farm in Gemas.

The centre has 61 satellite farms in Johor, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

The minister said reviving the farms was one of the ministry’s initiatives to boost livestock productivity, including the opening of new breeding areas in Perak.

“We are also going to focus on breeding cattle for milk and beef,” he further said.

Ismail Sabri added that the ministry wanted to cooperate with government-linked companies (GLCs) to help the country boost agriculture output.

“I have indicated my intention to various agencies like Felcra, Felda and Tabung Haji, and they will try to get other GLCs to help boost output,” he pointed out.
