The man who is suspected of slitting the neck of a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh student in his car at Km228.2, of the North-South Expressway (south-bound) near Bukit Gantang yesterday, has been remanded for seven days from today.

The suspect then got out of the car and tried to take the woman to the left of the road before escaping into the nearby jungle, but was apprehended by members of the public who handed him over to the police.

Taiping District Acting Police Chief Supt Ismail Che Isa said the man, 25, was detained to assist in investigations into the case.

“The case does not involve robbery and is being investigated as murder,” he told Bernama today.

In the noon incident, the victim, Nursyuhada Johari, 20, was with the man in a Proton Perdana car that was heading south.

They were believed to have been quarrelling in the car before it stopped and the victim got out of the car and fell on to the road with her neck bleeding.

Nursyuhada was confirmed dead at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital at about 2pm.
