The police will not defend two of its personnel who are accused of raping and extorting a female college student, said inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

“We will not defend them. We will gather the evidence and when ready, we will discuss with the attorney-general for possible prosecution.

“I have also issued an order to suspend (them) from work pending investigations,” he told a press conference at the Police College in Cheras this morning.

The two police personnel reportedly caught a couple having sex in a car in Kota Damansara while making crime prevention patrols on Monday last week - the student and her boyfriend in his 20s.

According to The Malay Mail , the two then allegedly extorted the couple of RM2,000 in exchange for not being brought to the police station, which they agreed to pay.

One of them also allegedly demanded sex from the 19-year old student but was turned down.

However, he reportedly called the student later that night and showed up at her hostel demanding sex again, threatening to tell her parents and take her to the police station again if she didn’t give in.

She was supposedly taken to a secluded area to perform oral sex on the police personnel, but he panicked mid-way through the act and took her to a shopping mall toilet and raped her.

He also allegedly forced to girl to withdraw RM500 from an ATM before leaving her at the mall, and continued to make phone calls demanding sex in the subsequent days until she lodged a police report on Saturday last week.

The duo were arrested on Sunday and remanded on the following day.
