The Election Commission (EC) here has received a total of 56 objections, including from five political parties, against the proposed redelineation exercise of the state constituency boundaries.

This was the number of objections received, as of 2.30pm today, two hours before the objection period closed, state EC deputy director Nelson Brian told reporters in Kuching.

The political parties which submitted their objection today were Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) with four objections and recommendations; PKR (11), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (one) and Sarawak Workers’ Party (one).

Yesterday, Sarawak DAP led by its chairperson Chong Chieng Jen, submitted five objections and recommendations, of which two were from Lanang and Sibu.

Nelson however, said the EC had not decided on the date for the hearing of the complaints.

On Monday, state EC director Takun Sunggah had said the EC would decide on the date for the hearing of these complaints as required under Section 5 of the 13th Schedule of the federal constitution.
