The Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) today denied having issued a media statement urging a ban of ‘The Rich Kids of Malaysia’ Instagram account .

Jakim public relations officer Asiah AlKharib Shah said Jakim had nothing to do with the statement that had gone viral on the social media.

The statement was dated Feb 6 and had purportedly been issued in the name of the Jakim director-general, Othman Mustapha.

“We deny that the statement was issued by Jakim,” Asiah told Bernama .

The statement stated that Jakim had decided to urge the ban of the account because of several factors, among which was the uploading of pictures contrary to Islamic teachings.
