Two days before the final verdict of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim Sodomy II trial, complainant Saiful Bukhari Azlan expressed dismay over his treatment as a “victim” of sexual assault.

There were few who sought justice for him even though he is the aggrieved party, he said in a blog posting.

“There is so little just treatment and concern about me, so much so that I am seen as irrelevant although I am the victim, while Anwar is the accused.

“It’s terribly disappointing when many, be it from the ruling party, the opposition, analysts or public, care more about the case’s impact on the political scenario and not about the truth, the facts and justice for me as a victim.

“Well, who am I? I am just a little person with no interests while Anwar is a VVIP, a politician with numerous interests. This is the way of the world.”

Anwar is appealing his conviction and sentenced under Section 377B of the Penal Code, read with Section 377A, which criminalises sexual acts between mutually consenting adult males.

Anwar insists that this is a political conspiracy against him, while critics of the case accuse the BN government of using the judiciary to put away a political foe.

Hypocrisy of highest order

“I find it odd and repulsive when Anwar and others supporters of a ‘clean and independent judiciary’ want the government and prime minister to intervene to free Anwar…

“Isn’t that hypocrisy of the highest order?” Saiful wrote.

He says that he still has faith in the judiciary and believes the case will be found in his favour.

But if Anwar is freed, there is always the afterlife, he said.

“I have faith that Allah will not forsake someone who is fighting for the truth.”

He says that after seven years, he says this is all he is fighting for - the truth and his dignity.

When he lodged the report, he said, he was a youth of 23 and now he is a 30-year-old father. Likewise, his lawyer Zamri Idrus went from being a bachelor to a father of four.

“I will continue to pray, to be steadfast and to be patient,” he said.
