Gerakan Youth has threatened to take Kelantan's PAS-led hudud law to court if the implementation ever takes place.

Kelantan state government yesterday trumped a Pakatan Rakyat leadership council’s agreement to defer the hudud discussion, by announcing a special sitting to pave way for the Islamic code will be held March.

“Gerakan Youth reiterates its stand that PAS' hudud laws are against our federal constitution and never agreed upon when Malaysia was formed.

“If Pakatan, DAP and PKR decide to allow PAS to implement hudud laws in any of their Pakatan states, Gerakan Youth will not hesitate to bring them to court to protect our federal constitution,” Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang ( right ) said.

Given that such Pakatan leadership meetings are “rare”, Pakatan’s refusal to object hudud outright only shows its inability to resolve real issues, he added.

“There is no basis for Pakatan to defer the decision on this urgent matter (as PAS already confirmed tabling their hudud laws next month), simply to wait for the decision of (PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case.

“That’s his 'personal' case and should not override the interest of our country and people,” he said in a statement.

DAP’s inability to put its foot down despite months of agitation for a Pakatan meeting shows the party’s “insincerity” in opposing the legislation which it says it is against, he said.
