Nigerian anti-piracy agents and police have arrested six Malaysians and a Filipino and seized illegally copied music CDs and movie DVDs worth roughly 330,000 dollars (RM1.25 million), officials told AFP on Tuesday.

Akeem Aponmade of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said eight sets of production equipment, each capable of turning out a CD every three seconds, had also been seized in raids last week in downtown Lagos.

Bayo Aiyibusi, head of Nigeria's anti-piracy agency, said the arrests followed the detention last month of four suspected Chinese counterfeiters.

Nigeria's retail market for music and films is dominated by illegal copies, often from Asia, with the lastest Hollywood releases changing hands in Lagos markets for as little as 70 cents (RM2.26).
