With the jailing of leading opposition figure Anwar Ibrahim by the Federal Court yesterday, the public sphere is abuzz with questions and speculation on the future of Pakatan Rakyat in particular and the direction of the nation's politics in general.

With this in mind, Malaysiakini is organising its first-ever public forum entitled ' Anwar behind bars: What's next for Malaysia ' at our brand-new premises in Petaling Jaya tomorrow, Feb 12, at 8pm.

Prominent figures from the opposition and civil society including former Bersih president Ambiga Sreenevasan ( left ), political activist Hishamuddin Rais, PKR vice-president Tian Chua, PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusuf Rawa and DAP central committee member Liew Chin Tong have confirmed their attendance for the night.

Among the questions and issues that will be discussed at the event - co-organised by Kelab Bangsar Utama - include:

  • Will Anwar’s imprisonment fuel the fury of the people?

  • Will the various campaigns to garner support for him continue to gain traction - or fail?
  •

  • Is Pakatan Rakayat weakened by the latest jailing of this opposition icon?
  •

  • What impact will an Anwar in prison have on Umno and BN - positive or negative?
  •

  • What future does democratisation hold for Malaysia?
  • ... and other related topics.

Malaysiakini 's new three-storey building has a purpose-built forum area that can house up to 100 participants. Tomorrow's event will also be streamed live online.
