'Letter for Phua, but no mattress for Anwar'
If Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can pen a support letter for an alleged gambling kingpin, why can't he give a proper mattress to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, asked Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
If Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can pen a support letter for an alleged gambling kingpin, why can't he give a proper mattress to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, asked Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said Anwar, who has undergone a major spine surgery, has only been given a one-inch thick mattress by the Prisons Department.
He added that there is also no table and chair in his cell.
"So if the home minister can give a support letter to an alleged gambling kingpin, why not Anwar?" he asked.
The opposition leader had a surgery in 2004 in Germany.
Meanwhile, Azmin ( right ) noted that PKR had already sent an application to the prison for Anwar to be given the proper necessities.
“We ask so that basic necessities are given to this political prisoner, and the lawyers are arranging for such needs to be supplied by the prison,” Azmin said.
He also clarified that PKR is not pushing for Anwar to be given VIP treatment, like what has been speculated before this.
Yesterday, the Prisons Department stated that Anwar would not be getting special treatment, and that he would be treated equally like the other inmates.
