The jailing of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is once again a political agenda by BN to stop the advancement of Pakatan Rakyat, said PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.

He went on to point out the four main aims that the government allegedly hopes of achieving through Anwar's incarceration, all of which he claims the public is aware of.

"(First,) with the hopes of Anwar going to jail they (Umno-BN) think Pakatan will break apart, and PKR will then go through a period of internal turmoil.

"Third, (they hope) that Pakatan's attack towards BN in issues such as abuse of power, corruption and public issues will be forgotten.

“Finally, they hope Anwar will fade into memory as the calls for him to give way to the younger generation is heeded," he said during a press conference at the party headquarters today.

However, Rafizi ( right ) - who is also the PKR vice-president - emphasised that if all four of these aims were met, then the public will continue to be under the rule of Umno-BN.

He added that the challenge for PKR and Pakatan now is to "maintain" the fight against the country's ruling party, while also continuing the efforts to secure Anwar's release.

Speaking about Anwar's replacement, Rafizi noted that Pakatan does not have a candidate yet, but would discuss the possibility of one in a meeting after the Chinese New Year period.

"The presidential meeting will be chaired by (PKR president Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) to discuss who will replace Anwar," he said, although he declined to elaborate further.
