Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan and DSP Jude Pereira may be investigated for not lodging a police report on the claim that Pereira was asked to allege that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is a victim of political conspiracy.

Police sources told Malaysiakini that failure to file a report on this matter amounted to suppressing a crime.

Confirming that no report was lodged on this, a senior officer, who declined to be named, said Musa should be blamed for not lodging a report, and for not instructing Pereira to do so.

"Musa revealed that Pereira ( left ) had briefed him on what had happened and the former IGP commended him for not agreeing to the offer.

"Commending him was not sufficient. As a former IGP, he, of all people, should know that Pereira was asked to commit a crime and that he should have filed a report.

"Being a junior officer tasked with investigating a high-profile politician like Anwar, could perhaps be why Pereira did not wish to make matters worse by exposing this.

"But this is no excuse for Musa," added the officer.

Yesterday, Pereira declined to comment further on the matter, saying he would leave it to the people to judge his statement, which was published by Malaysia Today.

Arising from probe into Sodomy II claim

Pereira, who was investigating the Sodomy II incident, claimed that he had met Musa and MyWatch chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan before the last general election in 2013.

During his meeting with Sanjeevan, the Pereira said, he was asked to allege that there was a conspiracy against Anwar and that he would be well taken care of if the opposition won the general election.

Pereira refused to do so and informed Musa about the offer.

Previously, Musa told Malaysiakini that he had commended Pereira for not agreeing to the offer.

Sanjeevan, on the other hand, initially refused to comment on the matter but later denied making such an offer to Pereira.

The NGO leader too has not lodged a police report despite claiming that the allegation is false.

On Feb 10, the Federal Court upheld Anwar’s conviction on Sodomy II by the Court of Appeal and maintained the five-year prison sentence that was imposed.

The opposition leader has always maintained that the charge against him was fabricated by his political rivals, but the government has denied this.
