Wildlife authorities captured a bull elephant that attacked a woman in a palm oil plantation in eastern Malaysia, a state official said today.

The elephant was captured late Sunday, four days after the attack near Telupid town in the state of Sabah, about 1,730 kilometres east of Kuala Lumpur, according to state wildlife director William Baya.

Baya said that the 20-year-old elephant, measuring about 2.3 metres in height, would be placed under observation before taking further action.

The elephant charged the victim and her husband along a road near their village, hitting her with its trunk. The husband was able to escape unharmed but the wife suffered injuries on the upper part of her body.
