DAP has lodged a police report in Penang to ask that the murder case of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu be reopened for fresh investigations.

Batu Kawan Dapsy chief Satees Muniandy lodged the report at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters in Bukit Mertajam today.

"A fresh probe should be carried out in light of ex-commando Sirul Azhar Umar's recent press interview with Malaysiakini .

"In the interview, Sirul said he was convicted based on circumstantial evidence and that he was ordered to kill Altantuya," Satees ( right ) noted in his police report.

"Sirul's statement has created doubt whether he and his colleague - ex-commando Azilah Hadri - were ordered by someone else to commit the crime," he added.

Satees - who is also a Seberang Perai municipal councillor - pointed out that the police need not wait for Sirul to be returned to Malaysia before launching a new probe.

"The police can send their investigators there to talk to Sirul. I am sure they can gain access to him easily," he quipped.

Satees said this while referring to the Malaysiakini report published on Feb 20 headlined, 'I never admitted to killing her, says Sirul'.

In the report, Sirul - who is now being held at an immigration detention center in Sydney - maintained that he had acted under orders and was made a "scapegoat".

He was also mulling a 'tell-all' to the media and has been reportedly negotiating with Australian TV stations to do it.

Azilah and Sirul - both former bodyguards of then deputy PM Najib Abdul Razak ( left ) - were sentenced to death by the Federal Court, which overturned the Court of Appeal decision to free the duo for the murder of Altantuya in 2006.

Sirul did not turn up in court to receive the sentence, having fled to Australia months earlier, but was later hauled up by the authorities and detained in the Villawood Immigration facility.

Najib - who is now prime minister - has vehemently denied knowing Altantuya and has dismissed Sirul's confessions as "utter rubbish".

Meanwhile, Satees urged inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar not to remain silent, and instead launch a fresh probe on the “new evidence” which has apparently surfaced with Sirul's revelations.

"There is a motive to every killing. The world is waiting to know why did Azilah and Sirul kill Altantuya when they do not know her at all," he pointed out.
