Protests against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's incarceration are being organised by those with too much time on their hand, said police commissioner Acryl Sani Abdullah.

"These rallies are instigated by certain quarters. These people have nothing better to do than plan rallies," he told reporters at a function in Shah Alam today.

Acryl Sani, who is the national crime prevention and community safety department director, said the police will take the necessary steps to ensure that such rallies do not get out of hand.

Since Anwar's incarceration on Feb 10, his supporters have rallied in Kuala Lumpur two weekends in a row ( photo ).

Attendance at these rallies have been in the low hundreds, but Anwar's daugthers are attempting to mobilise a bigger protest slated for March 7 and 8.

Pushing and shoving

Last Saturday, police nabbed activist Adam Adli and PKR supreme council member Fariz Musa after the duo gave speeches at a Kita Lawan rally.

The rally - organised by PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad - was done to show solidarity with Anwar Ibrahim after his recent conviction and sentencing by the Federal Court.

Nik Nazmi evaded arrest when his supporters spirited him away and this sparked a brief altercation between the two sides in front of the Dang Wangi police station.

Nik Nazmi was arrested at his home later that day and released at 2am after his statement was recorded.
