Yes, Gerakan can lead fight against sodomy laws
YOURSAY 'The best idea coming out of Gerakan. Don't wait for others to do it.'
Push for legal sodomy, Gerakan tells PKR
Ckl0001: Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang, whether or not to grant PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim a royal pardon is the prerogative of the Agong. Are you saying that he is not smart enough to decide on this matter?
Anwar has been unreasonably convicted as there are still a lot of doubts and unanswered questions concerning the Sodomy II case. A popular view among the public is that this is political persecution where a conspiracy was hatched to nail Anwar.
Anwar should not even be in jail in the first place.
Tok Karut: I cannot fathom why Tan does not push for the repeal of sodomy laws himself, because it is the best idea coming out of Gerakan. Don't wait for others to do it.
AkuMelayu-Tetapi ABU Jugak : Tan, go ask the only two Gerakan MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to propose the amendment bill to decriminalise sodomy.
I am sure that PKR and DAP will support the bill. But first ask your political masters at Umno for permission.
If Umno can agree, I am sure MCA, MIC and the other East Malaysian MPs will also support it too. But do you have the guts to ask Umno?
Senior Citizen: Indeed, BN has the majority of the parliamentary seats. So BN should initiate to table the motion at the next Parliament sitting.
Dalvik: First of all, your master failed to honour the promise to repeal the Sedition Act. In fact, they aggressively used it in the past few years. Tan, where were you when the Sedition Act was abused?
Wg321: On March 18, Umno is going to support PAS in the implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan. All 88 Umno MPs will vote for it in Parliament.
What is Gerakan going to do? Attack DAP or attack Umno? Dare you leave BN even if Umno supports hudud laws?
We Malaysia: I agree with Tan. PKR should fight to abolish sodomy. It's against human rights. We must move to abolish anti-sodomy laws. Anwar should not be punished for this kind of thing.
Versey: Anwar's family is seeking royal pardon for an "extraordinary kind of sodomy" with evidence that there's no penetration but because the complainant, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, could capture the sperm with his special skill and constipate for three days to retain the semen in his body, that the police had discovered a new way to preserve such specimens that can do away with the use of freezers by keeping it under a normal air-conditioning environment, and more amazingly where there's a flying carpet to support the case.
So, 'We Malaysia', don't be over excited to think that you can grab this opportunity to start a campaign to abolish sodomy.
Commentable: Tan, don't act like a mental retard and talk utter rubbish. Everybody knows that the abolition of a certain laws and the pardoning process are two entirely separate matters.
It is not the law per se that is no good but the abuse of it for ulterior motives that causes grave concern to many people, both locally and internationally.
ACR: A more pressing need is to eliminate (abolish) idiots like Tan Keng Liang from holding positions in political parties.
At least MCA and MIC have not commented on the much-maligned Anwar case, given the obvious farce it was and the international condemnation brought upon Malaysia.
YF: Tan really lacks grey matter. While the rest of his colleagues keep quiet because the rakyat know what justice and fairness means, he on the other hand is behaving like an Umno mouthpiece ruining his future in politics because the rakyat will never forget the absurdities and the sacrifice of his dignity just to apple-polish a lawless party.
Vgeorgemy: Why does Gerakan always want to be the appendix of another party? As a party formed to protect the progressive thinking of the day, you should be able to stand for fairness and justice without fear or favour.
Clearly, its current mentality of being an appendix party is due to its long association with the ‘ketuanan Melayu’ concept of Umno. Shame on Gerakan.
Continue-The-March Tan, nothing useful comes from you except taking cheap shots at others. That is the reason why Gerakan is such a pain and is irrelevant in Malaysia.
Foodforthought: This is indeed scraping the bottom of the barrel of imbecility.
Where Got Problem: Like MCA, Gerakan only knows how to attack the opposition to show their dog-like loyalty to Umno.
Why doesn't he mention that two Umno ministers were pardoned for murder and corruption - were these laws amended then?
Tpn: If a murderer can be pardoned, why not Anwar?
