Pertubuhan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) has refused to weigh into the hudud debate which have strained ties in Pakatan Rakyat.

Its president Phahrolrazi Zawawi said PasMa does not have a stance on the matter, as its priority as an NGO is for Pakatan to form a consensus on such issues, including hudud.

"Whatever issue it is, be it hudud or redelineation, we want the Pakatan leadership to come to an agreement and consensus.

"We (PasMa) are not involved in making specific decisions. We have no stance on hudud," he told journalists after a PasMa dinner in Petaling Jaya last night.

He said this when asked for PasMa's stance on the PAS push to implement hudud in Kelantan.

PasMa is a pro-Pakatan NGO, comprising PAS members. The NGO was formed to counter groups within PAS who are against cooperation with DAP and PKR, and wants the party to break away from the opposition coalition.

The PAS-led Kelantan government will convene a state assembly meeting from March 16 to 19 where it is expected to table an amendment to the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment 1993, the state legislation for hudud.

However, further amendments must be made to federal laws in Parliament before the enactment can take effect.

The plan is being fiercely opposed by DAP, which said the move is akin to PAS exiting Pakatan.

'Not PAS' official stance'

PAS has argued the state's hudud legislation had been in place even before Pakatan came into existence in 2008 and therefore, the party is entitled to push ahead with the plan.

Phahrolrazi also responded to the attacks and name-calling by PAS' ulama group during a conference of religious scholars (multaqa ulama) last Saturday, stating that it is not the official stance of the party.

"What transpired in the multaqa is not a decision by PAS, but merely proposals of a PAS wing.

"We see it as mere suggestions because the final decision is made at the PAS central committee or muktamar," he noted.

He also brushed aside the attacks - which include disparaging words such as "devils" and "crazy" - hurled at PasMa during the multaqa.

The multaqa had taken aim at PasMa and demanded action against its members - who they claimed were being disloyal to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( right ).

Some 300 PasMa members were present at the fundraising dinner function organised by Selangor PasMa.

Also present were PKR election director Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, DAP's Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, PAS Hulu Kelang state assemblyperson Saari Sungib, social activist Hishamuddin Rais and national laureate A Samad Said.
