The police have been urged to cooperate with organisers of the rally this Saturday to protest against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's incarceration.

During a press conference today, DAP Youth chief Teo Kok Seong said the police must uphold freedom of speech and freedom of association guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.

"We hope that the police force will give their cooperation and make this rally a successful one," said Teo, who is also the Rasah MP and is among the leaders of the #Kitalawan coalition who are organising the rally.

The rally this Saturday is a touted as a mega rally to protest against the alleged persecution of Anwar. It is scheduled for 4pm at the Sogo shopping centre.

Teo said he expected between 5,000 to 10,000 participants.

Since Anwar's incarceration on Feb 10, a series of small gatherings have taken place at the same venue. However, some of #Kitalawan's leaders were arrested after the gatherings.

For the March 7 rally, the police have urged #Kitalawan to hold the rally in a stadium, but organisers are pressing on with plans to hit the streets.

Apart from Anwar's freedom, #Kitalawan is also seeking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation as prime minister over 12 issues .

Among others, the group's 12 reasons for his resignation includes the 1MDB scandal, reneging promises to abolish sedition laws, GST implementation, weak handling of the economy, failing to stem corruption, failing to ensure free elections and abusing public institutions.
