A Johorean housewife was among three arrested by police between Feb 28 and March 3, for alleged links to the Islamic State militant group in Syria, police say.

The woman, 29, is suspected to have plans to join IS and is “inciting another local young woman” to follow suit, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said.

The arrest comes after a 14-year-old girl gained nationwide attention after she was stopped by police at the airport from embarking on a solo journey to join IS.

Two men aged 22 and 39 were also arrested in Perak and Kuala Lumpur for links to the terror group under the Penal Code and the Security Offences and Special Measures Act (Sosma).

The 22-year-old trader from Perak is suspected of funding Malaysians wanting to join IS.

The other suspect, a civil servant, was nabbed for registering a Facebook account for the use of Malaysian members of IS.

“He was also suspected of planning to join IS soon,” he said in a statement.

Police in January reportedly arrested a middle-eastern IS commander, and seized money and fake passports during the operation at a four star hotel in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
