Four passengers were injured when a Turkish Airlines plane made a rough landing at Kathmandu’s airport today, authorities said.

One of the tyres of the plane burst during landing and it slipped off the runway on to the grass, civil aviation director Birendra Bahadur Shrestha told the local media.

“It failed to land the first time due to poor visibility and made a second approach after over nearly an hour's gap,” said Purna Prasad Chudal, manager of Tribhuvan International Airport.

“During its second attempt, it made a bumpy landing, during which one of the tyres on the aircraft landed outside the runway and burst. All passengers have been removed to safety.

The plane had 248 people on board, and was flying from Istanbul.

The officials said four passengers had suffered minor injuries and had been sent to hospital.
