Idols winner Guy Sebastian will be Australia’s first-ever entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

The singer-songwriter was named by Eurovision broadcaster SBS in Sydney today.

Sebastian won the first edition of Australian Idol in 2003 and his debut single ‘Angels Brought Me Here’ became a hit.

The Malaysia-born artist went on to record several more hits in the pop R&B, soul and gospel genres.

Eurovision organisers recently invited Australia to take part in its 60th edition in Vienna. On social media many joked that contest organizers must have mixed up Austria and Australia.
